In the last few decades, excellence has become a core value for many churches. This has a lot to do with the emphasis that the church growth movement of the 1980’s and 90’s placed on carrying out ministry with as much skill as any CEO structuring and leading a company to success.
This emphasis on doing things well has its pro’s and con’s. On the one hand, a commitment to excellence can motivate us to give our best effort to carrying out the assignments God has given us, and that’s a good thing.
On the other hand, excellence can become an idol that prevents us from moving forward because of a fear of not being able to do something perfectly.
I wrote a post about this for church leaders and wanted to pass it along…
I’m also trying to establish a new routine of publishing The Reflectionary at least weekly. Feel free to read this week’s big sermon idea (below) and to pass this along to any other church leaders you feel would benefit!
Keep on growing!
This Week’s Big Sermon Idea
A sermon idea based on Romans 8:1-11
THEREFORE, on the basis of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, all who come to trust in him receive true freedom and real peace.
Creative Sermon Series Ideas from MinistryPass
My favorite resource for sermon series and message ideas, complete series graphics, and video bumpers (but NOT full notes) to get you started is MinistryPass! Each week, I’ll feature a series I would recommend checking out for the upcoming season of the church year. This week:
From the Description:
This four-week series looks at how the way we live can be a form of evangelism. Living out our faith for the world to see can help others come to know Jesus.
