Ever felt your life is in chaos?
Too busy? Too hectic?
Too much of trying to get ahead in the rat race of life?
The rat race is about…
• Being enough.
• Doing enough.
• Having enough.
And the world tells you that your worth is wrapped up in what you can get done and what you can achieve. So we sell out our lives to keep running.
We’re terrified of losing in the rat race of life.
And what happens when we’re terrified of losing?
Anxiety!
But you were made for more than the rat race!
You’ll never find the MORE you were made for by trying to BE more, HAVE more, or DO more than everyone else.
Philippians 4:6-9 NIV
[6] Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. [7] And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
[8] Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. [9] Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
You’ll never win the rat race, but you can run your own race instead.
God has an alternative, counter-cultural way of life for you. It involves quiet and calm and generosity and humility instead of constant competition and comparison.
HOW TO LEAVE THE RAT RACE BEHIND…
1. Invite the presence of God into every situation.
There are three ways we can handle any given situation…
• We panic! We shut down. We check out. We give ourselves over to feelings of anxiety and stress.
• We plan! We try to fix it. We come up with a strategy and try to move all the right levers ourselves.
• We pray! We invite God into the middle of every situation in life.
2. Receive the peace only God can offer you.
There is a kind of peace that only God can give you. It’s different from anything you’ve ever experienced before. It transcends our human understanding and our mental capabilities.
The peace of God guards your hearts. That is, it protects you from the inside out.
3. Intentionally choose the best thoughts.
When we live purely by reaction, we’ll find plenty of moments of panic. But when we intentionally take charge of our minds and take our thoughts captive, we can steer our thinking in the direction of what is good, positive, and praiseworthy.
The peace you really need can only come from a personal relationship with Christ.
